Indexing from Multiple Sitecore Databases

If your Sitecore instance uses multiple content databases or root items, you may need to adjust your SearchStax Sitecore module configuration. This guide shows you how to confirm your setup, rebuild indexes, and map fields so content from all databases appears in your search results. You'll also find links to advanced resources for multi-root and multi-site scenarios.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A Sitecore 9.1–10.4 environment with admin access
  • Permission to install and configure the SearchStax Sitecore module
  • A SearchStax Site Search app connected to your Sitecore instance

For module installation steps, see Sitecore module setup.

Confirm Root Item Configuration

  1. In Sitecore, open Launchpad > SearchStax Site Search > Sitecore Module Configuration.
  2. Under Index properties, check the Root item(s) list. By default, only /sitecore/content/home/ is indexed.
  3. Add the root path for each additional content database or site you want indexed.
  4. Select Save.
  5. Rebuild the index (see next section).
  6. Confirm that items from each database appear in the Preview in SearchStax.

Rebuild Indexes After Changes

  1. In Sitecore, go to Control Panel > Indexing > Populate Managed Search Schema and populate the schema for your SearchStax index.
  2. In Control Panel > Indexing > Indexing Manager, select your SearchStax index and choose Rebuild.
  3. In SearchStax, open your Search App and go to App Settings > All APIs. Select Reload schema to align the Search App with Sitecore's schema.
  4. Rebuild the Sitecore index again.
  5. In Preview, run * and confirm content from all configured databases is present.

Map Fields Correctly

If data from one database indexes but doesn't appear in results:

  1. In SearchStax, go to Configurations > Basic Configurations > Results Fields.
  2. Map Sitecore fields (for example, title, description, URL) to result card fields in Site Search. If fields are missing, rebuild the Sitecore index and reload the schema in Site Search before trying again.
  3. Run a search for known content from each database and confirm that fields display properly.
