Search Fields

SearchStax Site Search solution matches user queries against a list of Search Fields. This list is a powerful tool for focusing the search on relevant material.

Search Fields are a Profile-level feature. When you create a new Search Profile by copying from an existing profile or add a new language to a profile, the selected Search Fields are automatically published and active immediately.

Example: If users need to filter by department and also search department names with keywords, keep two versions of the field. Use a string field such as department_name_s for filters and facets. Use a tokenized text field such as department_name_txt_en in Search Fields for keyword matching.

Adding and Removing Fields

Dual-panel interface showing Available Fields on the left and selected Search Fields on the right, with options to configure searchable content parameters.

Click on an available field name to move it into the list of fields to search. The (X) button on the right removes a field from the active list.

Reloading the Schema

Note the Reload Schema icon above the list of fields. If you can’t find a field in the list, try reloading the schema. Changes to your website’s Solr schema are not automatically updated in Site Search.

Search field interface with a search box and Reload Schema button, showing where users can select available fields.

Saving Changes

Click the Save Draft button before you leave or refresh a page. Otherwise, changes can be lost. The Publish button makes this Search Profile available to the Search Preview screen.

When you save a draft, Site Search shows a blue dot in the navigation menu to indicate pending changes for the current app, language, and search profile. The configuration page also shows a banner. Status banners show pending draft, saved draft, and published states.
