Site Search doesn’t support real-time or near-real-time search. After ingesting content, there’s a short delay before documents are searchable. The delay is usually a few minutes, up to ten.
Note: During development, plan for the delay and test in small batches to shorten feedback loops.
Make Indexed Content Available in Search Sooner
After you index new or changed content, it can take a few minutes to appear in search.
You can wait for the content to become available normally or use Reload Schema to refresh Site Search. Reload Schema can make content that has already been indexed appear in search sooner. It doesn’t index the content again.
- Go to App settings > All APIs > Search & Indexing.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Reload Schema.
Verify That New or Changed Documents Appear in Search
After waiting for the normal delay or using Reload Schema, verify the result in Preview:
- Open Preview and run a search that targets your change (for example, a unique title or id).
- Confirm the document appears and fields are displayed as expected.
Tip: If a new field doesn’t appear in configuration options, click Reload Schema and try again.
Use Reload Schema when new fields don’t appear in Site Search or when already-indexed content hasn’t appeared in search after the usual delay.
Reload Schema refreshes the field lists in Site Search. It can also help already-indexed content appear in search sooner. It doesn’t index content or change your data.
Automate Search Readiness Checks
Newly indexed content can take 5–10 minutes to appear in search results. If your CI process indexes content and then tests whether that content is searchable, make sure your tests account for this delay.
After indexing the test content, periodically search for a unique identifier until the content appears. Continue with the test when the content is searchable, or fail the test after a configurable timeout.
As a starting point, check every 15–30 seconds and use a timeout such as 15 minutes. Adjust these values for your test environment.
If you're testing search behavior rather than the indexing process itself, use content that's already indexed so you don't have to wait for new content to become searchable.
