Restricted Terms lets you manage terms that should be excluded from analytics-driven search experiences. Use it to keep unwanted terms from appearing in data-driven Auto-Suggest, Popular Searches, Related Searches, and Smart Match Assist recommendations.
When to Use Restricted Terms
Use Restricted Terms when offensive, inappropriate, sensitive, or competitor-related terms should not appear in analytics-driven suggestions or recommendations.
Restricted Terms applies to the features you select. The available features depend on your account plan.

You can add terms manually or upload a text file:
- Enter comma-separated terms manually.
- Upload a newline-delimited text file. The maximum file size is 10 MB, and you can add up to 50,000 terms.
After you add terms, use the search or filter controls to find existing terms. Select individual terms or select terms in bulk, then delete them.

Select Save Draft to save changes without publishing them. Select Publish to apply the configuration to the selected features.
The Restricted Terms page is locked while a publish operation is in progress. If you navigate away during publishing, a success or error banner appears on the page you visit.
How Restricted Terms Are Applied
Restricted Terms filters exact matches from data-driven terms and recommendations in the features you select. Matching is case-insensitive and ignores surrounding punctuation. It doesn't use substring or contains matching.
For example, if exampleco is restricted:
examplecoandExampleCo?are filtered out.exampleco softwareandwhat is examplecoaren't filtered out because they include additional words and aren't exact matches.
Restricted Terms applies to data-driven terms. It doesn't filter manually entered, dictionary-driven terms in Auto-Suggest or Related Searches.
